The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) today officially launched its 2025 Planning Meeting, setting the stage for a year focused on strengthening accountability and transparency in the public sector. The event was inaugurated by Acting Auditor General, Dr. Ron Mwambwa, who emphasized the pivotal role of strategic planning in ensuring the delivery of high-quality audits.
Dr. Mwambwa remarked that the OAG’s success hinges on meticulous planning, which plays a vital part in upholding the public trust by ensuring that audits are thorough, transparent, and aligned with the needs of citizens. “Planning is key to ensuring that we continue delivering audits that promote accountability and transparency across the public sector,” he said.
The event also saw contributions from Mrs. Stella Nyonda, Acting Deputy Auditor General for Corporate Services and the Specialised Audits Division, who in her welcoming remarks, underscored the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving the office’s goals for the upcoming year.
The 2025 Planning Meeting entered its second day with an enhanced focus on stakeholder engagement. Among the distinguished guests were the Chairpersons and their Deputies/Proxies from the Committees of Public Accounts, Parastatal Bodies, and Local Government Accounts. These included Hon. Warren Mwambazi and Hon. Jonathan Daka from the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Chitalu Chilufya and Hon. Mutinta Mazoka from the Parastatal Bodies Committee, and Hon. Misheck Nyambose and Hon. Christopher Shakafuswa from the Local Government Accounts Committee.
Their participation was aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the OAG’s pre-audit processes, providing feedback on the office’s work, and exploring ways to improve cooperation for the benefit of the public.
In his address, Dr. Mwambwa noted the value of this interaction, stating that it would help bridge any gaps in expectations between the OAG and key stakeholders, including Members of Parliament. “This collaboration will go a long way in ensuring that our work is better aligned with the needs of the citizens we serve,” he added.
Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, Chairperson of the Parastatal Bodies Committee, also expressed his appreciation for the initiative, highlighting that the input from MPs was essential in refining the OAG’s approach. He reiterated the unwavering support of the committees in assisting the OAG’s mission to promote transparency and accountability.
The planning meeting marks an important step toward ensuring that the Office of the Auditor General remains at the forefront of public sector auditing, continuously working towards the improvement of governance structures and the betterment of citizens’ lives.
