Acting Auditor General, Dr. Ron Mwambwa, has dismissed calls to grant the Auditor General’s office prosecutorial powers, asserting that the current constitutional mandate is adequate for addressing irregularities identified in audit reports.
Dr. Mwambwa highlighted the office’s strong collaboration with key law enforcement agencies, such as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), to ensure that audit findings are acted upon effectively.
He also noted the implementation of a new inter-agency framework in provinces like Copperbelt and North-Western, designed to strengthen cooperation and expedite the reporting of financial irregularities.
