SIMPLIFIED Auditor Generals Report For 2019
AUDITOR GENERAL LAUNCHES SIMPLIFIED VERSION OF THE AUDIT REPORT
By Ellen Chikale
Auditor General Dr. Dick Chellah Sichembe has launched first simplified Report of the Auditor General for the financial year ended 31st December 2019.
The report is intended to inform stakeholders on how public resources are being utilized, managed and accounted for.
In his speech the Auditor General, said the mandate for the office was not only to audit public resources, but also to ensure that citizens understand the contents of the reports and where necessary, use them for decision-making.
He observed that the audit language by its very nature was technical
and that over the years, the feedback from the citizenry was that the Reports of the Auditor General were not easy to understand by an ordinary person on the
street.
Dr. Sichembe pointed out that it was against that background that the Office resolved to put together a simplified version of
the Auditor General’s Report that is responsive to the concerns raised by
stakeholders.
He emphasized that the report was in line with the Office’s Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Strategies that conform to International Standards
and Best Practice.
The Auditor General has assured the nation that his Office remains committed to engaging with its stakeholders and has requested them to evaluate the simplified report by filling in an evaluation form that is at the end of the report.
He thanks cooperating partners for their unwavering support.
And speaking earlier, Swedish Ambassador to Zambia Ms. Anna May Hultgard said they were excited to see the fruits of their long standing support to the Office of the Auditor General.
She said the simplified report will help citizens enhance their oversight role and demand for accountability.
And USAID Director Governance, rights and Democracy Dr. Nina Bowen said the US has been providing technical support to the OAG And was delighted to help disseminate the simplified report to the citizens using other media channels.
