Public Relations Section

The Public Relations Section serves as the voice of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), acting as a vital link between the Office and the public. Its core function is to inform and engage citizens, media, and other key stakeholders about the OAG’s role and activities, fostering transparency, accountability, and public trust. The section reports to the Deputy Auditor General, Corporate Services, and Specialised Audits Division is headed by the Head of Public Relations.

Key Functions

  1. Media Relations
    The section manages OAG’s media interactions, ensuring there is accurate communication of audit findings, reports, and activities to the public through press releases, media briefings, and press queries.
  2. Public Engagement and Awareness
    The section educates the public on the significance of auditing, the OAG’s mandate, and its role in promoting good governance, ensuring citizens are informed and engaged.
  3. Publication of Audit Reports
    The section ensures that audit reports are accessible, simplified, and understandable for all, upholding transparency and accountability.
  4. Internal Communication
    The section ensures seamless communication within the OAG, facilitating efficient flow of information across all staff and directorates.
  5. Crisis Communication
    In times of controversy, the section manages communications, providing timely and accurate information to protect the OAG’s reputation and maintain public trust.
  6. Brand Management

The section develops and promotes a positive public image of the OAG, managing branding strategies, communication materials, and the Office’s digital presence.

  1. Stakeholder Relations
    The section builds strong relationships with government agencies, civil society, and international partners to promote collaboration and effective governance.

 

Achievements of the Section

The section contributed to among others:

  • Producing the Simplified Report of the Auditor General on Accounts of the Republic (Main Report)
  • Broadcasting a 13 weeks Sensitisation TV and Radio Program on Parliament TV
  • Issued Press Statements
  • Enhancing the OAG’s engagement with CSOs and the Media

 

The Public Relations Section is pivotal in ensuring the OAG’s work is effectively communicated, fostering public understanding and trust. Through media engagement, public awareness initiatives, and strong stakeholder relations, the section contributes to the OAG’s mission of promoting accountability and transparency in Zambia’s public sector.
